You don’t get that kind of closure. Know why? Jack didn’t. We never see anything from his past that Jack wasn’t privy to. He hit that water with barely enough clothes to keep him warm in the dry winter, let alone in below freezing water. I figure the moon waited to resurrect Jack until his body was completely 100% frozen, too.

My guess? His body probably went into shock as soon as he went under—he probably gasped as he went down, sucked in a lungful of icewater and was drowning the second he was submerged. His sister was probably screaming but she knew she’d fall in too. Jack wouldn’t be able to hear her screams from under the water while his body dropped into immediate cold shock, either.

There would be no way for them to pull his body out, either. Not in that day and age. They had no tools to find him, and it was too cold for them to bother searching the lake. During those days, if someone fell in the ice water they were pretty much dead. I bet you that she screamed and screamed and begged for him to come up and nothing happened. She had to take herself home and tell their mother and there would be nothing any of them could do.

They might have held a funeral, but it wasn’t much of one without a body to bury.

Okay, gorgeous animation aside, I love how this gifset shows these characters in way evocative of the four seasons.

• Rapunzel is Spring, because she’s new to the world and the world is new to her - she’s young and small and naive, but she blossoms and grows into a strong, independent woman (and much-loved ruler of her kingdom, just saying)
• Merida is Summer, because she’s all about activity and the outdoors and she’s a little bit fiery - she’s sassy and her temper is short and she’s totally independent 
• Hiccup is Autumn, because he’s a bit more mature and grounded - at least compared to Merida - and because his role in his movie marks a period of great growth
• Jack is Winter, because look at anything related to the movie even just the wikipedia summary that one’s pretty self-explanatory

Also winter is symbolic of death, and Jack…died.
