All the people throwing tantrums and hissy fits over the new trailer for Equestria Girls and having a big BAW moment because IT’LL RUIN MLP CRAI.
Wow, I wasn’t aware how many people were psychic or part of the MLP team and actually got to watch the whole feature film before…
On your first point- I have gone through and read many other’s thoughts on the trailer, not just a single one before going LOLOL. Yours was one of the posts I read, so I know your thoughts on the subject already, thanks.
While you can form a negative opinion or something, it’s hardly fair to accuse a movie, game or series of destroying or overruling it’s predacessor before the final product has been released to the public.
Yes, you can say “I don’t like the look of this Equestria Girls” but I don’t think saying things such as “It’ll end up overtaking/replacing MLP baw” before you’ve even seen the finished film is the right way to go about it, and by doing so, you’ve already closed your mind on the subject before giving it a chance.
Secondly, while yes, the “humanised” versions of the ponies were not what everyone expected, it ultimately isn’t their choice to make. Not to mention having a ridiculously complicated design for each and every character would be hell on the animators.
I think their designs, while surprising, fit the characters well, and do not hinder the animation possibilities. They may not be super flashy, but it is, at heart, a children’s show, and simple characters are more memorable to a younger audience.
This being said, one of the points you argued is that with this ‘canon’ human representation of the ponies, the creative expression of cosplayers and artists will be hindered. This has some merit, though I doubt it will have as large an impact on the creative community as you fear it will.
Yes, we now have a human comparison, but a lot of committed cosplayers and artists are prepared to surpass the “standard” and break the boundaries.
Overall, what I’m trying to say is, a lot of people are fearing that their beloved show has been ruined by something that has not yet been released, so it’s kind of a soundless argument. Give it a chance before forever shunning it in a corner. People are overreacting to the maximum, it’s kind of entertaining to watch.
TL;DR: Yes, you can have a negative opinion on Equestria Girls, but saying it will completely ruin MLP:FiM without any sound points and/or proof is dumb, and you are one of the people I was talking about, and part of the reason I try to avoid too much interaction with the brony fandom.
