This chapter was like a closure. It was this very chapter that said “stop, it’s over” and it was this chapter that carried all the aftermatch emotions. We have Garp, who returns to the village and gets beaten by Dadan, because he didn’t help Ace and Luffy on the battlefield. You could really see how much Dadan truly cared for both of them and how hard it was for Garp not to be able to do anything for them. This man had even been ready to throw his duty overboard and would’ve possibly beaten Akainu to a pulp if Sengoku wouldn’t have stopped him. You can clearly see the pain in both of them and whenever Dadan says that Luffy now must feel the worst, it literally always makes me choke. We got to see the tombstones of Whitebeard and Ace, the wonderful man that had fallen on the battlefield. It made me tear up and it still does, but I love Oda for showing them to us. It felt like I was able to say goodbye to them myself and it helped getting over the pain. I also love the speech Shanks gave us, because what he said was so very true. A lot of people forget that crying is okay and they keep back all their grief. In general, this chapter was centered on overcoming your own pain and sadness. You could really see how it shattered Luffy’s usually self-confident and lively spirit. He even doubted his dream of becoming the Pirate King, which was painful to see. Luffy was lucky, though. He had a great friend with him and Jinbe reminded him of what he had still left, instead of dwelling on what was lost. When Luffy remembered his friends, I didn’t know whether to smile or cry. It was just so amazing to see how strong their bonds have grown over time and how badly Luffy wanted to see them afterwards. Without them, I think he might’ve really crumbled and fallen apart. It was very touching to see this connection between him and his crew and it sort of mended my own heart after Ace’s death. I loved this chapter a lot - it was definitely one of the most memorable ones.
